OFFICIAL LICENSE: Building Contractor within Mecklenburg County limits, and similarly in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

PRIVILEGE OF LICENSE: License allows for all facets of construction. License allows for, (and is often required due to the scope or type of work involved) building permitting and inspection requirements of Mecklenburg County, or other county.

LICENSE CLARIFICATION: The difference between a (State) Licensed General Contractor and , a (County) Licensed Building Contractor resides mainly in the cost of the overhead associated with being licensed. Mecklenburg County Building Contractor License allows for any job, with cost up to $30,000 to be completed and/or supervised by anyone who appilies for the right to do so,  through completion and within all county/state code certification requirements. State General Contractor (GC) licensing is a financially tiered system based on overall cost of jobs performed. Jobs totalling over $30,000 require a state licensed general contractor in Mecklenburg County.

Building Contractors are typically more on-the-job and doing-the-work contractors, as opposed to GCs that sub-contract the bulk of the work on any given project.

FYI: Projects taken on both within and outside of Mecklenburg County are evaluated and properly classified to insure all work is licensed, insured, and compliant with any city/county/state regulations. Many jobs are without any legal restrictions which lends to discretion by both parties, as is required. Effort is always made up-front and/or  in advance of all working situations to advise as to legalities involved according to scope of work being contemplated.
